The Farming Toolkit has been commissioned by Defra as a free resource to support England’s farming community in understanding and navigating emerging nature market opportunities. The Toolkit will be iterated on as nature markets evolve and as related policy and regulations develop.
The Farming Toolkit is organised in two parts. The Introduction to Nature Markets provides an overview of the markets that currently exist in England, why farmers may want to participate as well as some key concerns. This section introduces the concept of nature markets to farmers and covers common questions asked.
The second section we call ‘The Snake’, which provides a step-by-step guide for how nature market projects are developed in practice. The Snake is composed of ten milestones that guide farmers through the process of engaging in nature markets, should they decide it is right for them.
