Each year Agri-TechE brings together a series of agri-tech related events in a week in November, surrounding the REAP conference on the Tuesday.

REAP 2022 explores 'Making Sense of Agriculture'.

Read a Review of REAP 2022 here.

There are so many variables in agriculture at many levels, with profitability impacted by everything from the nutrients in the soil through to extreme weather events. Some factors are controllable, many are not, but informed decisions can mitigate risk – and the digital world is facilitating this.

Agri-TechE’s REAP conference is an opportunity to review how the meeting of real and virtual worlds is creating a new generation of technologies that are ‘making sense of agriculture’ and that can provide the intelligence needed to take the best action on-farm.

We have already seen the massive impact of GPS on farm automation, of remote sensing and monitoring on precision agriculture, and of connectivity on supply-chain logistics. We are now entering the next phase of on-farm digital technology, in which the virtual world of modelling, forecasting and scenario planning will play a greater part.

From yield mapping and precision livestock through to digital twins and cloud computing, at REAP 2022 we will be exploring the technology and looking at the implications from a field to landscape level.

Keynote session: The transformation of agri-food value chains – Elizabeth Fastiggi, Worldwide Lead of Agriculture Business at Amazon Web Services (AWS), will be giving her perspectives on the digital revolution, saying: “Our objective is to enable the entire industry to use data to deliver insights and improve outcomes.” She will be describing how customers large and small are using AWS tool kits and cloud computing infrastructure to harness data, develop more efficient machinery, and use machine learning and AI for improved decision support.

Highlights of REAP include:

  • Leveraging the virtual world to make sense of agriculture – panel discussion facilitated by Anna Hill, best known as a presenter for BBC Farming Today.
  • Enabling farm-centric technology – arable, livestock and fruit farmers review the discussions of the day and the implications for their farms.
  • Start-Up Showcase – a first chance to see exciting early-stage companies.
  • Game-changing science – top researchers share their perspectives on emerging agri-tech and how it will shape the future of agriculture.
  • International horizons – Agri-TechE is the partner of choice for many agri-tech clusters worldwide; a number will join us to bring a global viewpoint to the networking reception.

A notable feature of REAP is the technology demonstrations and networking opportunities. By bringing together all elements of the agri-tech ecosystem the conference creates a collaborative environment for stimulating innovation.

The Startup showcase included:

  • ALVÁTECH – A solar powered on-farm water treatment device that reduces salinity by 50% while improving soil health.
  • Antler Bio – A tool for livestock breeders and farmers that analyses the gap between genetic potential and actual performance of dairy cows, tripling the amount of produce while reducing methane production.
  • SugaROx – A novel biostimulant that protects wheat yields by 40% after drought.
  • FLOURISH – An alternative to antibiotics that makes ‘bad bacteria’ self-destruct and that is applicable to many diseases – it can reduce tomato canker by 99% and double the yield.
  • Tremap – The first global platform for tree recording for land managers that engages citizen scientists to ground-truth satellite imagery.
  • WASWARE – A seed protection that increases germination, repels pests, enhances growth and leaves no chemical residues.
  • Deep Planet – AI to help vineyard growers improve decision-making with a two-week prediction window.

Agriculture now generates vast amounts of data of different types and at different scales. The ownership, access, control, sharing, value, permissioning, intergration, security, safeguarding and sovereignty of this data represent multiple challenges and opportunities for the sector.

At this years Agri-Tech E REAP Conference, Sarah Kendall, ADAS Crop Physiologist joined a panel consisting of Matthew Smith (Scientific Technologies) and Macelo Galdos (Rothamsted Research) to discuss how the digital world is informing and guiding the developments and decisions in the real world – ranging from digital twins to predictive models, from platforms to help with scenario planning to the use of AI and machine learning to yield unprecedented insights into the future of agriculture and horticulture.

Agri-TechE is a business focused member organisation, supporting the growth of a world-leading network of innovative farmers, producers, scientists, technologists and entrepreneurs who share a vision of increasing the productivity, profitability and sustainability of agriculture.

The agri-tech sector is vibrant and growing, with many exciting companies, organisations and networks are working to develop agri-tech solutions.

Agricultural Shows have always been a very important place for farmers and the industry to share knowledge. The nature of agricultural shows has changed, but there are now an increasing number of staple events for a range of communities.

FarmPEP aims to connect the many networks, communities and groups across Agriculture. Add your network as a Group and connect to the 'Networks' Topic to have your network show up below.

Knowledge Exchange in Agriculture in the UK is diverse, with many organisations involved. That is part of the reason for creating Farm-PEP, to help provide connections to what many percieve as a fragmented landscape.

Agri-Tech Week features a mix of in-person and virtual events that are designed to showcase exciting developments in agri-tech. It is coordinated by Agri-TechE working closely with partners across the innovation ecosystem and aims to provide opportunities to attract new customers and partners and to broker collaborations and international connections.
