Event Date
Invitation - 'Farm Data and the Future of Agronomy' - 7th December 2022

Calling all agronomists! Sign up for the last few places at Soil Benchmark's event at NIAB on 7th December - hear from Dr Elizabeth Stockdale and join some of the UK's leading agronomists in the discussion on Farm Data and the Future of Agronomy

  • Is historic data on farm soils and management under-utilised?
  • How could it be used to identify best practice?
  • How could it help farms adapt to a changing climate?
  • How could it drive adoption of sustainable practices?
  • What’sthefutureofagronomyasfarmers try to reduce inputs?
  • Will interpreting farmers’ data play a bigger role?

Join us for an interactive session of leading agronomists to explore these questions. As well as hearing an update from Dr Liz Stockdale on the Soil Health Scorecard, we will breakout into workshops to explore and understand your perspectives. With free breakfast at the start, refreshments throughout, and the opportunity to meet other leading agronomists and farm advisors interested in how historical farm data can be better used.

08:30-09:00:  Arrival and refreshments

09:00-09:15: Update on Soil Health Scorecard from Dr Liz Stockdale

09:15-12:00: Guided workshops to explore, understand, and discuss your perspectives on this topic

Agriculture now generates vast amounts of data of different types and at different scales. The ownership, access, control, sharing, value, permissioning, intergration, security, safeguarding and sovereignty of this data represent multiple challenges and opportunities for the sector.

Soil is an essential natural resource for all farmers. Over recent years many initiatives have sought to provide information and advice on soils and Soil Health, notably AHDB Great Soils.

We help farmers improve their soil health by enabling them to benchmark their existing soil data.

We deliver transformational projects to drive productivity and boost farming and supply chain businesses. We want the industry to thrive in a rapidly changing world and continue to produce high quality food, maintain our beautiful landscape and leave a legacy for generations to come.

Soil health has been broken down into measurable parts to help farmers optimise crop and grassland productivity. As part of the Soil Biology and Soil Health Partnership, a project in the AHDB & BBRO GREAT Soils programme, guidance and protocols have been issued to help practitioners benchmark their soils

The intricate web of relationships between physical, chemical and biological soil components underpins crop and livestock health and productivity.

The challenges of food security, climate change and sustainable development present exciting opportunities for agricultural research and innovation. The NIAB Group is the UK’s fastest growing crop science organisation, having trebled in size over the past decade through a strategic programme of investment, merger and acquisition.

A range of digital technologies promise to transform agriculture, including sensing, robotics, artificial intelligence, wireless networks & IoT, big data, decision support tools, modelling, digital twins and precision farming.
