Farmers and landowners are under increasing pressure to protect and monitor biodiversity, however the skills and time needed to identify species can prove a huge barrier. This exciting event will explore how farmers, advisors and farm-cluster coordinators can be supported to upscale the monitoring of on-farm biodiversity, through collaborating with the local community and conservation organisations.

 

During the day, attendees will learn about a number of ongoing monitoring partnerships and will get the opportunity to feedback on what farmers need in order to build citizen science monitoring partnerships on farmland.

 

Speaker topics will include:

  • UK butterfly monitoring schemes - Butterfly Conservation
  • Models for long-term monitoring partnerships on farmland - The Selbourne Partnership
  • Farmer needs for biodiversity monitoring - University of Reading
  • Open Farm Sunday - Linking Environment And Farming

 

In-person attendees will recieve a FREE wildlife guide for UK butterflies and moths.

The event will also be livestreamed.

A second workshop aimed at farmers, farm cluster coordinators, citizen scientists and citizen science programme coordinators will also be hosted in May 2024, identifying the capacity of citizen scientists and citizen science schemes to cater for data needs, establishing further links between citizen science schemes and the farming community.
