Farming System: Organic

Pulse Pioneer Trial Layout

Trial Plan: The trial field has been established with Winter Oats.
To provide a comparison between Pulses versus Cereals Tim has established two tramlines of Spring Beans.
Across both crops Tim will treat two strips with Citadel to compare the impact of Citadel on both the cereal crops and pulse crop.
The aim of the trial is to monitor differences between pulses versus cereals with a view to understand the impact of Citadel.

Introducing Tim May...

We organically farm 1000ha (2500 acres) in North Hampshire, applying a holistic management and enterprise stacking approach. We currently grow organic crops including linseed, gluten-free oats and heritage wheats/grain varieties and look to include beans as an intercrop amongst the cereals.
On the estate we have 480 New Zealand crossbred dairy cows and a mobile milking parlour, integrated into the arable land through temporary herbal leys.
As an organic farm we are interested in naturally occurring soil nutrition and see legumes as a pivotal part of the puzzle.
Anything we can do to improve the reliability and knowledge around legume crops is very welcomed which is why we are keen to support this project.
