Following the Agronomics Innovate UK project from 2014 to 2017 with a range of partners including BGS and BASF, ADAS has been conducting around 200 Line Trials per year with farmers and clients using the protocols, software and statistics developed. The Agronomics approach allows robust scientific comparison of farm inputs in real commercial situations and across a the wide range of variation both within and between fields.
ADAS offers Agronomics line trials as a service to the agricultural industry. We can oversee the full process from finding suitable sites and designing trials, through site visits and in-season assessments, to data analysis and reporting, or alternatively ADAS can contribute just to specific tasks, to run trials in collaboration with other organisations.
Agronomics line trials have been successfully used in cereals, oilseeds, pulses and forage crops, and development is underway for potatoes and other field vegetables. The approach can be used to test any type of farm input, and has particular value for treatments which cannot easily be tested at a small plot scale such as cultivations, cover crops and variable rate applications. Discussion
If you are running an on-farm trial for harvest 2022 comparing cultivation or drilling practices, or you are considering such a trial for harvest 2023, please get in touch. ADAS are seeking to bring together farmers who are testing cultivation practices to enable sharing of experiences and trial results, and we can offer some staff resource to assess treatment effects on crops and analyse yield maps, to get the most value from these farm trials.
